Hello – I got an adjustable tempurpedic bed and it was the best thing we ever did- once I go into a flare where the coughing becomes extreme – sleeping upright is an absolute must.

I also found not eating late at night helped so much-

i also just lost 33lbs and that has also helped a lot.

    good luck

The coughing is the absolute worst thing ever 🙁

We bought a tempurpedic mattress and it’s the best thing.  Sleeping with my head elevated is the best for me!

I was diagnosed 3 years ago and am now on perfinadone after being on ofev for 2 years with many side effects. No side effects with perfinadone since starting in August 2024. I never have trouble sleeping—-slleep like a log ev ery night. However, I do have GERD and may look into buying a sleep number bed to help with the post nasal drip. I am on oxygen 24/7 and think that it irritates my sinuses. I am having chronic sinus problems. Hav e been on different nose sprays which helped initially but no longer. Any suggestions. Millie

It can’t hurt but it’s unlikely to do anything for your overnight blood oxygen saturation. You may need a sleep study, at least overnight oximetry test, and possibly a home study for sleep apnea as well. Many of us desaturate during sleep and don’t know it. Don’t fall for people telling you to just check pulse oximetry as soon as you wake up. 2-3 breaths after waking up, you will be back to normal. It provides no info about how low you may drop overnight. Sleeping on your back is worst for sleep apnea/snoring.

Sleeping on your back is worst for any sleep apnea/snoring issues.

Hi, dx myself in 2020. I am on twice day Ofev. O2 at night. I too have this question on position of sleep— I am told his awful am and nitetime wet cough is Post nasal drip but it has persisted for a year now w no relief. Any thoughts appreciated. Due to a support grp on zoom thru this site- I am now going to get a second opinion on my situation and see if Rixu….. would be good for me. I have familial IPF.

thoughts on elevated head and Post N drip/cough appreciated. Chyna

    Hi Everyone –

In addition to adjusting your position (ie. head elevated), another thing I’ve discovered recently to help improve my sleep and reduce the productive cough I had in the morning, is to have a humidifier beside my bed. This is especially helpful during the cold winter months where the furnace is running a lot. Thankfully, I don’t have a lot of trouble sleeping but I found this reduced the amount I coughed when waking up in the morning. I just purchased one off Amazon and it made a big difference.

    Charlene.
